  • Freedom students continue to excel in science and math
    Christopher T., son of Christopher Towery and Taylor Watkins of Morganton, North Carolina, was one of 32 exceptional high school students attending the 28th annual High School Summer and Math-Science-Technology Institute in Oak Ridge. Gov. Roy Cooper nominated Christopher, a student at Freedom High School, to attend this accelerated learning program. He was selected based on his potential to excel in math and science and to continue in higher learning.

  • Freedom Welcomes Jonathan Chesson as new Band director

    "Mr. Chesson's vision for the future of the Patriot Bands is to see the program continue to build on the successes that have made this program a hallmark organization in North Carolina.  He plans to bring a deeper connection to music that will touch the lives and souls of the students under his direction and to those in our community."

    Freedom High School senior Andrew “Drew” Philip McRacken is one of 66 Morehead-Cain Scholars who will enter the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as freshmen in the fall. The Morehead-Cain Foundation, home of the first merit scholarship program in the U.S. and founded at the first public university in the country, announced its class of 2021 last month. Drew, the son of Lisa Moses, the school counselor at Oak Hill Elementary School, and Mark McRacken of Mooresville, said he was in “awe” and “excited” when he received word that he was named a Morehead-Cain Scholar following a lengthy and stressful process.
